Default unable to connect to remote asterisk

Every time I open my computer with ubuntu and asterisk, when I write in terminal sudo asterisk –r it says “unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)”. The file asterisk.ctl exists in folder /var/run/asterisk. I have to restart the asterisk to work. Does anyone know about this problem?

Are you sure your Asterisk is started at boot time ? The fact the file exists doesn't prove asterisk is running. Try starting it and sending a -9 signal to asterisk you will see the file is still there.

Hope this helps.

Alex.

I think that asterisk starts at boot time, because i have edit in the /etc/default/asterisk/ the RUNASTERISK=yes.

The best is probably to check after reboot in order to be sure. RUNASTERISK=yes is not enough, you should also have a link in your /etc/rc.X to the /etc/init.d/asterisk (or something like that).

Regards, Alex.

I cannot find the folder rc.X in the etc. The only folders to seem to seem are rc0.d - rc6.d and rcS.d.

Sorry, X is the run level your machine is using. Just at your next reboot check if asterisk is started. If asterisk is not running it is a unix issue, not an asterisk one.
