Default trixbox voice quality issues

i dont get it.
i have an amazing internet connection, 10/2mb from Fios.

I have the standard DI-624 High Speed Wireless router.

My internet goes into the router -> 1 Port direct to SPA-3000:Phone System; Other port to Switch ->Trixbox. My personal comp is on that switch too, as well as a wireless AP to extend range into rest of house.
The connection between the switch and the router is standard cat5 ethernet that goes outside of my house, into basement, and back up to swtich.

My sound quality sucks.

Should I put the trixbox directly on the router as well?

I was considering making a linux router out of a more powerful pc, turning DHCP and firewall off (if i can) on my DI-624, and trying that. But i assume that if the spa3k and the trixbox were on the same router without swtiches and long legnths of cable between them it would be better?

i will try moving it, but if you have any solutions, ideas let me know.

Your problem could be anywhere, but the most likely culprit is your router. I say this because of my own situation. My production Asterisk is connected to my "A" router via a switch and, despite being a Pentium MMX 200, it delivers excellent voice quality.

Assuming that the promised speed you quoted is really 10/2Mbps (megabits per second) and not mb (millibits), you should have no difficulty sustaining dozens of phone calls. I just upgraded from 8/1Mbps copper ADSL and enjoyed as many as 6 simultaneous calls without degradation.

What does www.testmyvoip.com report for you? Running their test from the PC connected on the same switch as your Asterisk should be an excellent test.

test said 4.0 to boston, 4.2 to london (odd, im in the USA), and 3.8 to vienna = good quality calls.

-I moved the box to directly connect to the router, no change,
-switched from voxee to plainVoip = MUCH BETTER

My internet is Verizon FIOS and based on many speed tests across the country it is accurately 10/2 mb (mega) as in when I download from Microsoft it moves at Megabytes/Sec speed.

Im going to try this "pinging my provider" test.

But, I think its time to upgrade away from the Dlink to something better.
Any suggestions?

isn't it a clue that changing providers improved things drastically?

I was going to sugest to test voice quality with fwd or other free provider. You can for example test it by calling 800 number. If the call quality is fine there the culprit must be your paid voip provider.

yes, obviously the change in provider was the reason. I am not a retard.

However, Voxee had been working fine for a while beforehand, so it seemed odd to suddenly go bad.
The switch that I was using was pretty cheap so I wanted to test and see if that was the root cause as well.

What did Voxee say when you reported your findings to them?
