Great stuff.
I guess it might be me but, I can't get the system speed dial to work at all.
I have been informed to dial 3003xx followed by desired destination (adhering to normal dial plan) and to dial *3xx to hear the number play back.

When I start to program a number by dialing 300, I think that it thinks I am trying to execute the number that is stored in 300. It says "that number is not in the speed dial system, pleeeze try again".

Any help here is definately appreciated.

Hi Jay - below is a "cut and paste" directly from my Asterisk @ Home 2.8 manual. I just tried it on my system and it works:

Aaterisk@Home 2.x has included a built-in speed dialling utility amongst the goodies that comes with it. Numbers 300 to 399 has been reserved for this purpose.



To add a number to your speed dial list, you simply pick up one of your extensions and punch in 3003XX61212345680 (assuming 61212345680 is the number you want to save in your speed dial list) where 3XX is the speed dial code for 61212345680 (substitute 3XX for the position e.g. 301).



After doing that, Asterisk will confirm the code and the number that you have just registered. If you want to make correction to or change the telephone number that you have entered simply repeat the process.



In the above example, every time you dial 301 Asterisk will dial out the number associated with that code. In this case, it is 61212345680.



Ensure that you enter the number to be called in the same format that is supported by your Asterisk dialplan.



To look up speed dial numbers, simply dial * followed by the 3-digit speed dial code, e.g. *301. This will tell you the number stored in speed dial position 301.

i'm trying to use the speed dial with a calling card, that is to dial 7 digits
to calling card company's IVR and than dial 7 digits access code.
Will A@H2.8 speed dial handle 14 digits with time delay of 3 second in the middle?

You will likely not be able to accomplish this with the Speed Dial function of A@H2.8. Just as I have described whenever someone asked this question with regard to an ATA, Asterisk's Speed Dial function has no way of sending some digits in one direction by one method (the access number via SIP Call packet) and some more digits in a different direction by a different method (the PIN as DTMF digits via the talk path).

Of course, since Asterisk is simply a Linux application you can write an API to do exactly what you want and call that API from your Asterisk extension.
