| | Switch/Router sugestion I'm looking for a 16 port switch with a router with QoS capabilities, which give me a good performance for VoIP inside my home.
I'll appreciate any sugestion on this.
Thanks |

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion Linksys makes excellent business-end routers and switches with QoS.
They actually just took a price cut too.
You can see their 16-port model here -> http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...VisitorWrapper |

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion If you are confined by a tight budget, you can buy a Linksys RT31P2na unlocked router ata that comes with 2 phone ports. Then you can use a couple unmanaged 8 port switches that run as low as $20 each. The RT31P2 has QOS capabilities. How many voice lines do you need and how many pc's are you going to hook up? Depending on your answer this cheap way may or may not work. |

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion I would recommend any decent 16 port switching hub in front of a Linksys WRT router. The reason for one 16 port switch instead of two 8 port switches is to streamline any traffic that would have had to traverse from one to the other 8 port switch.

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion Thanks for the sugestions, I'm having 4 Polycom IP Phones, 1 GXP2000, 2 SPA 3000 and 2 SPA-841.
In the network I'm having 5 PC, too.
Two DSL lines.
Today, I'm using a WRT54 for VoIP communication in one DSL
One small 5 ports switch and one Netgear Lan/Router for email and web access.
I'm still facing some interruptions when I'm using Broadvoice and Quantum, both in G729.
Tha's why I want to put all the VoIP traffic toghether with QoS to prioritize the voice in my network.
Hope this is enaugh info to clarify the situation I'm facing.
Any other recomendation?
Thanks |

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion If all you have on your WRT is VoIP and you still see interruptions, you probably won't see any improvement by rearranging your LAN the way you suggest.
I would first recommend confirming how much bandwidth you actually have (not what your DSL provider says you have) by checking the speed test at www.dslreports.com and your VoIP hopes at www.testmyvoip.com before tearing apart your network. Of course, you will have to move a PC over to your VoIP LAN to test that link.

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion I've already tested my bandwidth with dslreports.
I have around 500K Down and a little below 200K up (it was 194or 196K)
I believe this is enough for a single G729, dosn't it?
Thanks |

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion So that looks like 9 voip and 5 data ports on 2 dsl connections. G729 requires 24kbs per port so that is 9 x 24 = 216kbs upload and download speed required for voip alone. You have enough for 8 but that's really tighter than I like to run things. Can't you get cable in your area? When you had a problem with the two services on g729 were they both running using the internal WRT phone ports or were they running on ata's hooked up to the ethernet ports of the WRT? |

| | RE: Switch/Router sugestion Don't forget the 16kbps per conversation for overhead. That makes the load that much worse.

| g729a(20ms 2 samples) is 8 kbs + 16 kbs overhead = 24kbs. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
