Just an update for anyone else looking at going down this path; the installation of the SPA3K was fairly easy and I'm now able to make calls via the cordless or via my laptop (soft phone) or call between them. Some minor hastles with getting * setup but then that's the nature of that beast.
Still have to work on getting the PSTN line to integrate as this function has stopped working on my 3K. When I get the 3K replaced I'll set that up.
