Default Sipura 2100 to * "answering machine"

Thanks to the invaluable assistance of PhoneBoy and mberlant (Thanks guys!) I currently have a working Sipura VOPI system that looks like this:

POTS connection -> Sipura 3000 -> Sipura 2100 -> telephone

Incoming calls on the remote POTS connection are answered by the 3000, passed through the net to the 2100 and the phone rings locally.

Great so far.

I have just finished a new installation of "Asterisk@Home" on a computer that I have plugged into the Sipura 2100.

Now what I want to do is to set up the * box to watch the 2100 that it's plugged into and answer the phone after X number of rings, play a "leave a message", beep and record the incoming call into a wav file or whatever. In short, I want the * box to be an answering machine.

I would also like to have the * box save incoming faxes on that same phone line.

How can I get where I'm going? Is there a "recipe" posted anywhere that will tell me how to do this? I log into the *@h box and it gives me pretty configuration menus....

Now that you have that done, you need to insert the Asterisk into the middle of the network.

Asterisk is a VoIP PABX. As such, you pass traffic through it from one device to another. So, you now need to start familiarizing yourself with how to connect your SPA-3000 and SPA-2100 as client extensions of your Asterisk box.

When you are all done, calls will ring in on the 3000, the Asterisk will ring the 2100 for a few rings and then the Asterisk will pass the call to Voice Mail, which will take a message. When you get home you will pick up the phone connected to the 2100, hear the stutter Dial Tone, call in to the Asterisk and retrieve the message. Alternatively, Asterisk will have collected the message, converted it into a .wav file, and sent it to your email inbox.

Default Gotcha!

I see. Thanks for the short explanation of what I need to be looking at. This gives me a place to start and an understanding of what I need to be doing.

Thank you once again.

Default RE: Gotcha!

It's a significant learning curve, but if I can do it, so can you.
