Default SIP Register or Not Register

Greetings,
The number of my SIP ATA's and IP Phones is growing. All these LOCAL devices sit behind my AstLinux box, no NAT.

Always a fan of stability and reliability, I thought that requiring each of these devices to register every few minutes seems like a waste, and a potential problem if a hiccup occurred during the process.

So, I configured my Sipura SPA-2002's, SPA-841, Grandstream GXP-2000's to NOT register. Removed the host=dynamic and included the proper host=IP addresses in my sip.conf file. Restarted and rebooted everything.

Guess what, everything works just fine!!!

Does anyone have any reason to have their SIP devices to register with asterisk under these conditions?

Comments?

Lonnie

No, it should be fine.
The main reason is to notify Asterisk if you have dynamic IPs.

Thanks,
Another advantage to defining 'fixed' local SIP devices is a more secure sip.conf without adding deny/permit for each extension.
