| I found this thread on voxilla about sip time out message. I have the same sitution but could not resolv yet. I need kind help. Situation is i am trying to register a xlite ver 3.0 softphone remotely from another country to asterisk server in Tx,usa. I successfully done it when i am in like 45 minutes drive from asterisk server(dallas) to arlington . Question is i was also behind netgear router and able to register and talk without any specification of stun than why not that softphone not registering from the other country? Could be the reason(router is uncooperative with sip) some reason are indicated below, i learn a lot from it thanks. Now suppose it is not possible to port forwarding which should be done on that rempote router now without doing that how i can register that softphone with my asterisk server? need a solution and reply soon. please. sakib please read this para first. ================================================== ======== "Some routers are SIP aware, knowing how to translate the headers of the actual SIP packets to masquerade as the client in the face of the server. In this case, nothing needs to be done to traverse this NAT boundary. Some routers are cooperative with SIP clients, which use NAT discovery techniques to learn the public IP information directly from the router. In this case, STUN is not required. A very few routers are of the Symmetric NAT variety. These routers are wholly uncooperative with SIP, so internal IP addresses, port assignments and port forwarding assignments must be manually managed for each and all SIP clients residing behind that router. Most routers don't fall into any of these other categories, and benefit from STUN. The client then must be configured to contact a STUN server to learn its public IP information, as assigned by the client's NAT router, which the client then includes in its Register request to the SIP server. The new eyeBeam-like version of X-Lite comes with its STUN client disabled. You need to enable it and choose a sever to use. Any server will do; I tend to use stun.fwdnet.net:3478, but you may choose any one that works." ================================================== ======= |
