Default Remote Hints between 2 * servers

Hello,
I have two asterisk servers that are interlinked via IAX so that a staff member in the Melbourne office can call a user in QLD an visa versa.
Incoming calls come in via PSTN to the Melbourne * server and get routed to either melbourne or qld phones.
Given that incoming calls all come thu melbourne I am able to setup Hints so that I can see what extensions are in use.
While this works (for the most part) I cannot fathom how to get hints to activate in melb when a qld extension makes an outgoing voip call.
Its easy in melbourne because that is the same * box that the melb phones are connected to.
So the problem is, I need to send a hint to the melb pabx when qld make an external voip call.

Can this be done?

My only possible solution is to have the voip call come thru the melb * box and then placed to our voip provider via melb. This however seems cumbersome and a waste of bandwidth between offices (both 512/512 adsl - max 5 trunks)

Cheers
Enaran
