Default IAX to * and SIP to IP phones?

I've got *@Home installed and rec'd a Sipura 841 today. I want to setup an account with a VoIP provider. Could I set up an account with an IAX provider (i.e. VoicePulse) to use the IAX protrocol between VP and the * box then use SIP to connect the IP phones to the * box, or do I have to use SIP on both sides?

Default RE: IAX to * and SIP to IP phones?

IAX to the VOIP provider is the right answer if your provider supports it. IAX has some benefits in bundling multiple calls and more signalling.

My Asterisk box uses IAX to register with FWD and SIP to register with BroadVoice. My Sipura 841 and Sipura 3000 both register with Asterisk using SIP.

My laptop registers with Asterisk using with SIP or IAX depending on what I'm doing and where in the world I am at the time.

It's all good.

After reading the * Doc Project manual last night, I have a much better understanding of dial plans. I could have answered my own question if I had read that before asking.
