Default *@home & AMP

After spending most of the weekend working on this project, I finally got *@Home working. I'm using a AMD K2 350Mhz w/ 288MB RAM, (1) SPA841 phone, and DIAX on my laptop. I set up an account w/ VoicePulse w/ one DID number.

AMP is supposed to make things easier, but I am not so sure. I haven't been able to locate any documents/manuals for AMP, with the exception of an installation manual, which is not needed since I installed it w/ *@Home. I think I could have gotten the inbound/outbound calling working faster if I had written the .conf files myself, of course I wouldn't have had all the bells and whistles AMP potentially provides.

I'm experiencing some call quality issues when speaking with outside lines. I haven't been able to nail down the problem yet, but there is a definite delay (I can see my wife speaking on the cell phone and there is a very noticeable delay before I here it through the phone). I haven't experienced any echo yet, though I really haven't made that many calls yet. I hope to play some more.

I ordered a SPA3000 from Voxilla. I will use it to interface with my POTS or Vonage line (I will order a second SPA3000 after I set the first one up). I'm a little concerned about setting up the 3000 after reading all the posts here. I'm doing this project one piece at a time to make sure I can do it. If all else fails, I can sell the components.

In the end, I hope to have 2 SPA3000 as FXO ports and 4 IP phones with (1) POTS line, (1) Vonage line, and (1) VoicePulse line (w/ DID). I hope my old computer can keep up.

Default RE: *@home & AMP

The good news is that the SPA3000 is pretty easy to set up with Asterisk. You will set up the Line 1 side as an ordinary extension and the PSTN Line side as an extension that has its reach code (what you dial to reach it) set up to look like an outbound trunk.

When you get the full complement of equipment installed and running you may be more concerned with running short of bandwidth than running short of PC horsepower. If you want all 8 channels running at once you will be using about 640kbps of bandwidth in each direction.
