Default Help w/PRI Purchase

Hello,
I am considering purchasing an asterisk or sangoma T1/PRI card but what if it does not fit into my linux box. Does one size fit all? Also, what is the difference between the PRI card and T1 frame relay, do they still serve the same purpose? If after purchasing one of these cards, what else would I need to purchase in order to have for instance, PSTN allocating DID to my system and my system being able to process 23 simulaneously calls and distributing various routes. If my understanding is incorret, feel free to correct me.

Another concern, is do I have to have a T1 Line coming into my dwelling? I am tryng to understand everything as much as possible before purchasing...

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

PRI and Frame Relay are two completely different services available from your phone company. PRI is ISDN Primary Rate Interface, 23B+D, 23 64kbps channels that can be used for "dial-up" data or voice conversations plus one control channel for coordinating the 23 B channels. Frame Relay is a private circuit point-to-point data service that is purchaseable in 64kbps units of CIR (Committed Information Rate) and base bandwidth. You purchase CIR according to how much bandwidth you "can't live without" and base bandwidth according to how much more you would "like to have if it is available at the moment", according to your private networking needs.

From what you describe, you want PRI. PRI will give you as many as 23 simultaneous conversations. There is another component that you will order and pay for separately - DID numbers. Only you can say how many DID numbers you want for your 23 simultaneous conversations, but a typical ratio is 100 numbers per PRI, with all of these numbers shared across all of your PRIs.

What is the estimated cost of a PRI from the telco? What is the estimated cost of the DID?
