hi Eric,

Thank you for the FreePBX AMI!

Would you be so kind to upload a version into US-West region?
(Your existing copy is in US-East, and moving it is non-trivial).

Thanks!

First, fantastic stuff. I'm extremely new to all of this (Asterisk & FreePBX), but your guide and AMI image worked flawlessly on my EC2 instance.

And now time for my extremely newbie-ish question!

I'm running into the problem of the signals being sent to the phone connected to my instance, but no audio (my soft phones are connecting to each other fine, just no audio). Searches indicate that this is a problem with NAT routing, correct?

They say that I have to tell Asterisk/FreePBX about it's static IP to solve the problem (http://www.freepbx.org/support/docum...ing-extensions). I couldn't find any other guides documenting this problem on an EC2-hosted system.

I took this to mean that I should assign an Elastic IP to my EC2 instance (which I did), but I don't know where to enter that into FreePBX; I can't seem to find the relevant field.

If this is what I should be doing, could you elaborate on what I might be missing? If not, could you point me in the right direction to solve this issue?

Thanks so much, and my apologies again for the "newbie-ishness" of the question!

Im trying to get CDR logging to mysql. Was asterisk-addons not included in this package?

If I were to build from source, are there any changes I should know about, or is there a howto on the forums?

TIA!

I have a shared hosting plan with SSH for my website running with little load. Can I use it for a very small Asterisk deployment ?

When using EC2 with Asterisk running idle for a month, then how much will it cost ? And when talking for 10 hours will that be much more ? Experienced users please provide general info on costs of Asterisk on EC2.

Thanx in advance.

Additionally, I would like to know something about setup costs.
Is there a lot of data to be moved during installation ?
Is it very expensive to setup an Asterisk on cloud ?

Hi Skipper,

We have an Amazon Web Services Price Calculator embedded on our site that can help: http://www.cloudcontrollers.com/bill...ice-calculator. But there isn't much to it- there is no data to move, just create and instance, launch the instance and start configuring it.

However, adding EBS volumes to prevent catastrophic config and data loss is vitally important. As there is limited help on this subject in this forum, we will be publishing our best practices setup for this server soon on our site- hopefully before the leaves turn If you are not familiar with how to create mounts on a Linux system, symlinks for directories, etc you will need someone with Unix/Linux skills to assist you.

Thanks to Eric's work on this, we were able to jump into FreePBX and Asterisk painlessly, and our modified instance of this AMI has been running non-stop for Cloud Controllers in the US West region for about one year. All for the cost of about $70 a month in server charges plus VoicePulse phone charges.

VoicePulse is a very reliable termination provider and you can get $10 free credit to test the service: http://connect.voicepulse.com

They also have a module you can install in FreePBX to make administration easier.

If you need help configuring and supporting this PBX we hope to begin offering support soon (again, before the leaves turn) - you can PM me your contact info or sign-up for our new applications mailing list at our site.

Best Regards,

Thanx for your reply "cloudcontrol".
These $70/month is for how much calling ?
Should occasional caller choose to set up an Asterisk on old Pentium PC at home and pay <$10/mo for electricity ?
With PC&ATA@home receiving better voice quality because of low latency on LAN then with EC2@WAN?
I find this AWS cloud really interesting, but the difficulty of guestimating the costs keeps me away from this technology.
