You're starting to understand that Asterisk is a real PBX. You seem to be heading in the direction of two extensions and multiple trunks in this PBX. Since it is a real PBX, you are completely free to determine exactly what happens (and, in what order) whenever a particular incoming trunk receives a call.
I have several extensions in my home office and quite a few incoming services. A few of these numbers ring on my wife's ring group. Many ring on my ring group. Some go to my IVR, one to my Conference Room, and one each to several other extensions for DID purposes.
Some of these numbers are set to go to Voice Mail when the call is not picked up. Some will camp on to the desired extension (call waiting) and some will not. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, how each line behaves is completely up to you.
