Default Asterisk and GXP-2000 phones, configuration suggestions?

Hi Everyone:

I finally have my two nifty new GXP-2000's connected to my working (thanks to this excellent forum) asterisk box. I set up two extensions, one for each phone. I configured the phones, connected, and everything's working beautifully.

So what's the problem?

On the GXP's, I have 4 lines. I would like it so that when someone calls my main DID, and "Line 1" is busy, to have "Line 2" ring, then 3, etc. (like what is traditionally called "call hunt").

Now, I know I can do this by creating 4 extensions of each phone and letting Asterisk handle it by doing a Ring Group maybe for each block of 4 extensions for that GXP, so new calls would ring on the other "Lines" and then go to whichever voicemail afterwards...

But is there an easier/better way? I didn't see the option, but can the GXP itself handle this in a sexier way? And finally, if I do need to create one extension per line, do I have to set different SIP and RIP port settings for each one?

I'm interested to hear from anyone who's had similar experiences dealing with this problem, thanks!

The GXP-2000 handles it quite nicely on it's own without any additional configuration. If an incoming call comes in for Line 1 and you are on it, the incoming call will automatically "roll over" to Line 2, Line 3, and Line 4 even if those lines are registered somewhere else (or not registered at all).

It turns out that AMP installs an .agi(?) script that doesn't send incoming calls to extensions it deems "in use". Just a simple matter of removing the lines in the code that make that check, and poof, works like a charm.

If you're going to use these phones, stay away from AMP unless you know enough to tinker with C code.

Hi,

Using a GXP-2000 and AMP, I haven't had any problems with the call waiting feature.

One thing to note about AMP is that it, by default, DISABLES call waiting for all extensions. So before you will be able to take more than one call on your GXP (or any other extension in AMP) you need to dial *70 from the phone to enable call waiting for that extension. With the GXP, you need to first disable the local phone call waiting feature (so you can use Asterisk's built-in feature.) Go to the phone account you are using on the Grandstream admin page and set Enable Call Features to No. This allows you to have AMP/Asterisk manage the call waiting.

Regards--

I can also confirm that Asterisk seems to handle call waiting quite nicely on a GXP-2000. As noted, you need to disable the feature locally on the phone and let Asterisk handle it.
