Hi there -

I've been working with Asterisk@Home 2.8 for a few days now and really like the system however I have not been able to configure any service providers to work (i.e. Broadvoice, etc). I seem to have networking issues or am missing something the get Broadvoice to register properly. Everything else in Asterisk is working wonderfully.

I am a "newbie" to Asterisk and have just been reading up on the FXO cards you can use with Asterisk.

My question is: If I am understanding this correctly, if I were to purchase an FXO card for my system, this would allow me to connect regular phone company telephone lines to my Asterisk system and use regular phone lines for my incoming and outgoing calls as opposed to using a VOIP provider, correct??? Thus, my system would operate as a full Asterisk IPBX system using standard phone lines???

Also, if I were to go this route (FXO Card), is this fairly easy to set up and configure without the "headaches" of trying to get a VOIP provider configured and register for incoming and outgoing calls???

Any thoughts and information will be greatly appreciated.

correct. i'm doing both (i have a tdm card with one fxo and one fxs port.) the fxo talks to a minimum verizon line (for 911, 411 and toll-free and emergency measured service failover if i lose my broadband.) the fxs is wired to the house. works fine.

I do the same thing via the SPA3000 ATA. This is a slightly less integrated solution, but affords me automatic power failure protection on my PSTN line.

true enough. a tradeoff. i have the * server on a hefty UPS, so this was my answer

My Asterisk is in Japan, where UPSes are at least 3 times the price per VA than the USA, so I have a relatively underpowered UPS in place.
