Hey guys, I just instaled version 1.2.7.1 on a Redhat box and wanted to configure all that I want with AMP (the friendly way). Since this is not A@H, it doesn't come with AMP in it, so I need to install it. Well, where do I get it from and how do I install it ? Thanks.

FreePBX contains detailed instructions of how install it. It's pretty complicated, but if you follow it carefully it works... I just finished installation of * on hacked msntv box you get get for $25-30 on ebay. Its a great project to do if you know linux. The "computer" is noiseless, instead of HD uses a CF card (in my case 1GB IBM microdrive). If you install zaptel, *, add-ons and freepbx you still have about 400MB space left for voicemail, etc.... MSNTV has pretty good PIII processor and 128MB of RAM, so things like trancoding works nicely.

Thanks for the fast reply guys. I found the download place at sourceforge just after posting this and now I'm strugling with it I didn't know about the msntv box, sounds great, but I was thinking about a Wyse thinclient. Did you hear about anyone doing * on that ? It has a WinCE preinstalled, a CF slot, two USB's. If I would know that I can boot it on the CF, maybe I'd get one to try Astlinux.

You have to find out more about processor it uses (* does not need much), memory size and size of a "hard disk" - probably some for of solid state memory. For * you need at least 1GB. If hard disk is too small, find out whether there is a CF slot to expand it. Main thing: find out how it boots linux, as very likely you'll have to play a bit with the kernel (recompile). Can you boot your new kernel? If that is true you can do anything. Also a warning: you won't be able to use asterisk@home - it assumes you have a bootable CD which won't be the case. And CentOS is a bit picky, I wanted to install it on my msntv but couldn't make it work. Debian is much friendlier as it allows install on CF or USB drives.

Thanks for the reply. Now, ok, A@H will not work because of the cd issue. How about Astlinux ? I never tried that but I know it's very small and can boot on CF and USB. Have you tried this with your msntv box ? I think I've read somewhere that is possible. If you can have it boot on the USB, you might be able to do it. By the way, can you connect the msntv box to your network and have it go out on the web without that subscription ? (never had one of these).

Asterisk 1.2.7.1 compiled for an Intel x86-based processor using full-size Red-Hat (or CentOS) libraries are around 16MBs. The libraries it relies on is about 40MBs. A minimal Linux 2.4.x kernel configured to support Asterisk is 1.5MB. Busybox for all the util and /sbin/init is about 640KB. Everything can be squeezed into a 64MB CF. If you really want to shrink it down, you can use uClibC. OpenWRT has been able to support Plain Asterisk (no FOP, no AMP/FreePBX, no perl, no PHP, etc) on 8 MB of flash for a MIPS processor. Add 20% in size to compare with an Intel x86-based processor. See ya... d.c.

Hey thanks a lot. See, under my username says "voxtrotter" So, to actualy ask a question: -did any of you guys did (or know that is "doable" ) install Astlinux on a thin client or msntv box ? Or: -did anyone know what thin client is able to boot on USB ? Thanks guys.
